Zopa Investing

Zopa has officially entered the UK investment market with the launch of two simple, ready-made investment funds available through a Stocks & Shares ISA or a General Investment Account. The products are designed for first-time or hesitant investors who want a straightforward way to grow their money without navigating complex fund choices. Customers can open an account in minutes, start from just £1, and manage everything through the Zopa app.

The new investment account was announced at the bank’s Canary Wharf office in front of 150 City executives and the Economic Secretary to the Treasury, and forms part of Zopa’s wider strategy to become a full “Home of Money” for UK consumers.

What can you invest in with Zopa?

Zopa is offering two ready-made portfolios managed by global asset manager Invesco:

  • Balanced Fund – A diversified, medium-risk portfolio with an average annual return of 4.5% between January 2021 and December 2024.
  • Bold Fund – A higher-risk growth-focused portfolio that has returned an average of 9.3% annually over the same period.

Both funds are built and run by Invesco and accessed via Zopa using Upvest’s investment infrastructure. They are designed for long-term investing and can be held inside either a Stocks & Shares ISA or a General Investment Account. Zopa says future updates will include a wider choice of Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) and new in-app insights to help customers understand how their investments are performing.

You cannot buy individual shares, funds or in a SIPP for your pension yet.

How much does investing with Zopa cost?

Zopa has set a single, all-in annual fee of 0.54%, with no hidden charges and no additional account or custody fees. This includes a 0.14% fee paid to Invesco for managing the underlying funds. Investors can start with as little as £1, and there are no minimum lump sums or exit charges. As with all investments, the value of your portfolio can rise or fall, and returns are not guaranteed.

This is cheaper than Wealthify and Moneyfarm, but not quite as competitive as IG.
