Capital.com has agreed a deal to take over the European client book of rival online trading platform FxPro, in a move that could significantly expand its presence across the European Economic Area (EEA).
The agreement will see clients of FxPro Financial Services Ltd transferred to Capital Com Group Ltd, Capital.com’s European entity, subject to regulatory approval and individual client eligibility.
Both businesses are regulated by the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC), which must approve the transfer before it can be completed.
The financial terms of the agreement have not been disclosed, nor has Capital.com confirmed how many FxPro clients are expected to move across to its platform.
Capital.com Expands European Trading Business
The deal represents another step in Capital.com’s expansion strategy as it looks to increase its market share in Europe’s competitive online trading sector.
Founded in 2016, Capital.com has grown into a global trading platform offering access to financial markets, including forex, indices, commodities and shares through derivatives such as CFD trading and financial spread betting.
The company has operated in Europe from Cyprus since 2017 and has increasingly focused on building its international presence through organic growth and targeted transactions.
Christoforos Soutzis, Europe CEO at Capital.com, said:
“This step will strengthen our reach in Europe and once the transfer completes, will bring a well-established client base into the environment we have built for everyone who uses Capital.com.”
He added that the company would focus on providing incoming clients with the same standards of service, protection and transparency as existing customers.
What Happens to Existing FxPro Clients?
The proposed transfer will not be automatic for every FxPro customer.
Capital.com confirmed that clients must satisfy its onboarding, risk assessment and eligibility requirements before their accounts can be transferred.
These include know-your-customer (KYC) checks, appropriateness assessments, client categorisation and target market requirements.
Affected customers will be contacted directly before any changes are made to their accounts or services.
The announcement relates specifically to the European client book of FxPro Financial Services Ltd, rather than FxPro’s entire international business.
Further Consolidation in the Online Trading Industry
The agreement is another example of consolidation within the retail trading industry, where brokers are competing for market share while facing increasing regulatory and technology costs.
For Capital.com, acquiring an established client book offers an opportunity to increase its European customer base without relying entirely on organic customer acquisition.
It could also provide an opportunity to generate additional trading volumes and revenue from existing customers, although the financial impact will depend on the number of clients successfully transferred and their subsequent trading activity.
For FxPro, the transaction represents a significant change to its European operations, although the company has not outlined its wider strategic intentions in the announcement.
The deal remains subject to CySEC approval and completion of the necessary client assessments. No completion date has been announced.
