Account: Wealthify Junior ISA

Description: Wealthify's junior ISA, lets you invest in either an original portfolio of investments from the UK and overseas or choose an ethical investment plan made from a blend of environmentally and socially responsible investments.
Capital at risk.

Is Wealthify's junior ISA any good?

Yes, we rate Wealthify as a good stocks and shares ISA for your children as you have the choice of an ethical investment plan. But as you are investing in ethical elements of the stock market, there is a risk that the value of your child’s portfolio could go down.

Pricing: Wealthify charges a straightforward management fee of 0.6% for its Junior ISA, alongside the underlying costs of the investment funds used in the portfolio. It’s a bit annoying that this is not displayed clearly on the JISA page, however, a full breakdown of fees are shown for each portfolio. I do feel as though this should be a bit more transparent as 0.6% is higher than some other providers.

There is a £1,000 minimum deposit, which is relatively high compared with some Junior ISA providers.

Market Access: The Wealthify Junior ISA is a managed investment service rather than a DIY investing account, so you cannot choose individual shares, ETFs or funds yourself. The pre-made portfolios rebalanced by experts can contain up to 20 investment funds from providers including Vanguard and Royal London, giving exposure to hundreds or thousands of investments across global markets.

App & Platform: Very easy to use, I’ve always liked it, especially the chart which shows you how much your child’s portfolio can grow to.

It’s designed to make investing for children simple and largely hands-off. You can open and manage the Junior ISA online, monitor its performance and make one-off or regular contributions. Its Friends & Family feature is particularly useful, allowing other people to contribute directly to the child’s JISA.

Customer Service: Excellent support from real people in Wales by phone and secure message, plus an extensive online help centre and FAQs.

Research & Analysis: There is some educational content explaining Junior ISAs, investing, risk and ethical investing, but relatively little in the way of DIY investment research tools.

However, Wealthify isn’t aimed at investors who want detailed market research, stock analysis or investment-screening tools. Instead, its investment team selects, builds and manages the portfolio according to the investment style you choose.
