IG is offering new customers up to £300 in free shares as part of a latest push to attract investors, alongside its commission-free investing proposition.
£300 in welcome bonus shares
IG is giving new clients between £40 and £300 in bonus shares when they open an account and invest at least £300.
IG is also promoting zero commission on UK shares and ETFs, no account fees, and 3.75% AER variable interest on uninvested cash (up to £100,000). The offer is available across its main accounts, including ISAs, general investment accounts (GIAs), and SIPPs.
What’s the catch?
As with most “free shares” promotions, there are conditions attached. Investors must make their first investment within 30 days of opening the account and keep at least £300 invested for three full months after the initial funding period.
The bonus is also variable, meaning you won’t know exactly how much you’ll receive until it’s awarded. Other costs still apply, such as FX fees (from 0.7%) and SIPP administration charges. Importantly, you must remain invested, so you are exposed to market risk during the qualifying period.
How to claim free shares from IG
- To qualify, investors need to open an account via IG’s promotional link and enter the code WELCOME300 (unless using a partner code).
- After funding the account and investing at least £300 within 30 days, you must hold that investment for three months.
- The bonus shares are then credited by the end of the following month.

Overall, it’s a competitive incentive, particularly given IG’s low-cost structure, but investors should weigh the conditions and risks before signing up.
