UK investing platform IG has launched a new refer-a-friend promotion designed to encourage more UK investors to open share dealing accounts, offering existing customers the chance to earn up to £500 in account credit.
Under the scheme, IG clients can receive £100 per successful referral, with rewards available for up to five friends who sign up and begin investing.
The broker, best known for spread betting and CFD trading, is increasingly promoting its longer-term investing products such as share dealing accounts, ISAs and SIPPs as more retail investors look for low-cost ways to build portfolios.
How the IG Refer-a-Friend Offer Works
To qualify for the reward, IG customers must already hold a share dealing account and share their unique referral link with friends.
Referrals must then:
- Open a share dealing account (including ISA or SIPP options)
- Make at least one investment of £50 or more
- Complete the investment within three months of account opening
Once these conditions are met, the rewards are paid as:
- £100 credited to the referrer’s account
- £50 credited to the friend’s account
This means investors could earn up to £500 total if five referrals successfully open and fund accounts.
IG Expands Focus Beyond Leveraged Trading
While IG remains a major provider of leveraged products such as CFD trading and financial spread betting, the company has been growing its investment offering in response to demand for more traditional products.
Share dealing accounts, stocks and shares ISAs and SIPPs allow investors to buy shares and funds outright, rather than trading on margin. However, IG continues to highlight that all investing carries risk and the value of investments can fall as well as rise.
IG’s offer follows similar incentives from other fintech platforms such as Wise, Revolut and Remitly, which have used referral bonuses as a major customer acquisition tool. Traditional investment platforms are increasingly joining in as competition heats up across the DIY investing market.
For frequent investors with a network of friends interested in starting to invest, IG’s promotion could provide a meaningful bonus — though the reward depends on referrals making an initial investment.
