To invest in Slovenian companies on the Ljubljana Stock Exchange you will need to:
- Open an account with Interactive Brokers
- Search for stock like KRKA (you will need to request LJSE trading permissions) when the stock appears in the drop down menu
- On the order ticket, choose the amount of shares you want to buy and click buy
A few tips about trading shares on the Ljubljana Stock Exchange
- Spreads are wide so to get a better price you can work a limit order which sets the maximum you are prepared to pay for your shares
- Shares are expensive, when we tested it even 100 shares in KRKG was β¬15,900
- You’ll have to convert your base currency into Euros ( which is actually quite cheap with IBKR, but still a cost to consider)
The Ljubljana Stock Exchange (LJSE) is Sloveniaβs primary securities market, hosting 26 listed companies with a combined domestic market capitalization of approximately $10.9 billion USD. The exchange’s benchmark index, the Slovenian Blue-Chip Index (SBITOP), tracks the most liquid stocks and was valued at 1,869.74 points as of January 2025, reflecting a 12.45% increase since the start of the year. Trading activity on the LJSE varies, with a recent turnover of β¬34.74 million EUR reported in December 2020, though historical peaks have exceeded β¬327.36 million EUR in periods of high market activity.
