Capital.com has expanded beyond leveraged trading by launching direct stock and ETF investing across Europe, as the broker moves towards becoming a broader multi-asset investment platform.
This means that eligible European Capital.com clients can ccess to more than 2,280 stocks and exchange-traded funds across US and European markets, with no commission charged on stock or ETF investments.
The launch represents a significant expansion for Capital.com, which has traditionally focused on short-term trading products such as CFD trading and financial spread betting in the UK. By adding direct investing, the company can now cater for customers looking to buy and hold investments over the longer term as well as traders taking shorter-term market positions.
Stocks and ETF investing will sit alongside Capital.com’s existing research, charting and portfolio tools, allowing customers to manage different types of market exposure through the same platform.
Christoforos Soutzis, CEO Europe at Capital.com, said:
“Across Europe, clients rarely fit into a single category. Many trade on short-term views and build long-term positions within the same week. A platform built for only one side of that no longer matches how people actually invest.”
Capital.com said its stock and ETF service is provided on an execution-only basis, meaning it does not advise customers on which investments to buy.
The products are available across most of Capital.com’s European Economic Area markets, although there are some exceptions. Stocks are not currently available to customers in Belgium or Spain, while ETFs have yet to launch in Cyprus, Greece, Romania, Bulgaria, Slovenia or Iceland.
Europe is the first region to receive the expanded investment offering, but Capital.com plans to roll out stocks and ETFs to other markets in the coming months.
That includes both the UK and UAE, which would put Capital.com into more direct competition with established investment platforms and newer commission-free investing apps.
The expansion reflects a wider trend among trading platforms towards offering customers a combination of active trading and traditional investing products from a single account.
Capital.com was founded in 2016 and operates regulated businesses across a number of international markets. Its UK operation, Capital Com (UK) Limited, is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.
