Interactive Brokers Customers Can Now Trade Romanian Stocks Through The Bucharest Stock Exchange

IBKR Launches Romanian Stocks

Interactive Brokers has expanded its European market coverage, giving clients direct access to the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) and opening up Romanian shares via its global trading platform.

Interactive Brokers customers can now trade Romanian-listed equities alongside stocks and securities across more than 170 markets worldwide, using the broker’s existing web, and award-winning mobile trading apps.

Access to the Bucharest Stock Exchange is available to eligible Interactive Brokers clients, although customers of its Indian and Japanese entities are currently excluded.

The Bucharest Stock Exchange’s benchmark BET index reached record highs during 2025, with momentum continuing into the first half of 2026.

The Bucharest Stock Exchange, main market indices have delivered a total return of more than 80% over the past 12 months, which it says was the strongest performance among major EU market indices. The exchange also says more than €5 billion has been channelled into the Romanian economy through its market during the period.

Romania has also recently been given MSCI Advanced Frontier Market status, a key indicator of the growing development of the country’s capital markets.

Interactive Brokers CEO Milan Galik said the addition was part of the broker’s strategy of giving customers broad international market access.

“Adding the Bucharest Stock Exchange expands the choices available to our clients and reinforces our commitment to providing the broadest possible access to global markets,” Galik said.

Bucharest Stock Exchange CEO Remus Vulpescu said connecting Interactive Brokers’ international customer base to Romanian companies should help deepen liquidity, improve price discovery and increase the international visibility of locally listed businesses.

For European investors, the addition of Romainian stocks provides another way of diversifying portfolios beyond the larger developed European markets.

Romania’s stock market includes some of the country’s biggest businesses, with the BET index containing companies across banking, energy, utilities, healthcare and infrastructure.

Earlier this month, IBKR also announced access to Brazilian futures through Brazil’s B3 exchange.
