USDMXN Forecast

The US Dollar-to-Mexican Peso forecast is an indication of where technical and fundamental analysts think the USDMXN price may be in the future. You can use these exchange rate forecasts to help you decide if now is the right time to buy Mexican Pesos with US Dollars, or if you should wait until the price improves.

USDMXN Forecast highlights:

  • USDMXN trades near 2-year low (Peso weak); favours buying Peso
  • Mexico’s slowing growth and US-MXN tariff are weighing on the currency
  • Watch for a resumption of MXN’s slide this year on adverse macro conditions

How has USDMXN performed recently?

Since the middle of 2024, the Mexican Peso has been weakening persistently. For example, last summer only 17 pesos were needed to acquire a dollar. Now, dollar buyers have to fork out more than 20.0. The rate has been staying above 20.0 for a good few months (see below).

Despite this negativity, it seems that the Peso’s bearish trend is slowing. The upward sloping trend (Peso weaker) was broken late last year. Moreover, the rate did make an excursion above 21.0 – a ‘breakout’ in chartist parlance – but was quickly beaten back into the 20.0-21.0 range.

This means that the supply and demand of USDMXN are roughly matched these days. Traders are probably waiting for further developments, such as the US-Mexico tariff deal, to judge if the rate’s medium-term trend (Peso weak) can be resuscitated.

Is it a good time to buy Mexican Peso with US Dollars?

The quick answer is yes, if you do need Pesos urgently.

The rate has been weakening for some time. Just recently USDMXN traded near the 2-year lows. As long as the FX rate trades above 20, it would be a reasonably good deal for Peso buyers.

Of course, if you do not need the foreign currency right now, another viable strategy is to sit on USD and see if the rate may drop further. Macro currents are highly unpredictable now due to the new US administration.

Will the Mexican Peso get stronger against USD?

Mexico has one of the largest economies in the world – ranked 15th with a dollar GDP value of $1.8 trillion and a population exceeding 130 million. However, real economic growth this year is anticipated to slow down.

According to the International Monetary Fund, the United Mexican States is expected to grow 1.4 percent (real) in 2025. Last year, the Latin nation grew by 1.8 percent.

One main reason for the downgrade in Mexico’s growth forecast is the looming trade war. Most of Mexico’s exports (above 80 percent) go to America. The tariffs war will impact Mexico’s foreign earnings significantly. But fortunately Mexico-US made a last-minute deal last week to delay the recently-announced 25 percent tariffs.

Another reason for Mexico weak growth is the double-digit interest rates, which is a drag on Mexico’s economy. Β In all, the Mexican Peso is not expected to rebound sharply this year (or at least in the first half) due to adverse macro factors.

What is the USDMXN forecast in weeks?

Most forecasts of the Dollar-Peso entered around 19.0 to 23.0.

In other words, the market is not expecting the Peso to regain the ground lost in 2024. A partial retracement of the rally from 17 is a distinct possibility, but not a full reversal of the trend.

As a matter of fact, some brokers are expecting the rate to bounce above 22.0 (further Peso weakening).
