Online trading platform Capital.com has secured regulatory approval to operate in Singapore, marking its first licensed business in Southeast Asia as the group continues its international expansion.
Capital.com has been granted a Capital Markets Services licence by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), allowing its local subsidiary, Capital Com Securities (Singapore) Pte. Ltd., to deal in capital markets products, including securities and over-the-counter (OTC) derivatives.
The company plans to begin onboarding Singapore clients in early 2027, expanding its presence into one of Asia’s most established financial centres.
The move adds Singapore to Capital.com’s growing list of regulated markets, which already includes the UK, Europe, Australia, the Middle East and Africa.
Former IG Asia CEO Tony Lim to Lead Singapore Business
Capital.com has appointed Tony Lim as Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of its Singapore operations.
Lim brings more than 30 years of experience in financial markets, having previously held senior positions at Singapore Exchange, DBS Vickers Securities and Saxo Capital Markets.
Most recently, he served as CEO of IG Asia, giving him considerable experience in Singapore’s online trading industry.
Commenting on the launch, Lim said:
“Our focus over the coming months is on getting the foundations right, from onboarding and client protections to the education and market insight that help people understand risk before they act.”
Capital.com has also established a local office at 9 Battery Road in Singapore’s Raffles Place financial district, with teams covering compliance, operations, client services and marketing.
Capital.com Targets Growth in Asian Trading Markets
Singapore represents an important step in Capital.com’s international growth strategy, providing the company with a regulated base in Southeast Asia.
The MAS licence allows Capital.com to establish a local offering in a market with established regulatory standards and an active financial services industry.
Valentina Rzheutskaya, Executive Director at Capital.com, said:
“Singapore sets a high bar for how financial services are delivered, and the MAS licensing process examines every part of a firm’s governance, controls and capital.”
She added that the licence reflected the company’s approach to entering new markets under local regulatory supervision.
Ahead of its planned 2027 launch, Capital.com is preparing its Singapore platform to meet local requirements, including identity verification through Singpass MyInfo and mandatory two-factor authentication.
Singapore customers are expected to have access to the group’s existing trading technology, including advanced charting, market analysis, educational resources and risk-management tools such as stop-loss orders.
Increasing Competition Among Global Online Trading Platforms
Capital.com’s expansion into Singapore highlights the continued international ambitions of online trading providers as they seek opportunities beyond their established European markets.
The appointment of former IG Asia CEO Tony Lim is particularly notable, bringing direct experience of operating a competing trading business in the region.
However, securing a regulatory licence is only the first step. Capital.com will still need to attract customers and establish itself against existing trading platforms operating in Singapore.
Founded in 2016, Capital.com has expanded its international footprint through locally regulated businesses, with Singapore becoming its latest market.
Capital.com is expected to release further details about its Singapore trading platform and product offering ahead of client onboarding in early 2027.
