What is scalping?
Scalping is a particular trading strategy focused around taking advantage of extremely minor price moves in the market. In this strategy, a trader essentially believes that it is easier to trade small price moves more frequently than big price moves less frequently. There is also the added benefit that when trading shorter price moves, there is less of your account size at risk so from a risk management perspective some traders may find this easier to manage. In scalping, a trader could look to place between handful or hundreds of trades a day depending on their goals and seeking to ‘scalp’ a handful of pips per trade.
So for example, if they were to buy EURUSD at 1.1350 then the trader is seeking to close the trade for profit as soon as prices hit 1.1352 or slightly higher i.e. capturing the small pip movement in their favour. Alternatively, if the price were to fall, they would aim to close the trade out at around 1.1348 for a small pip loss.
