IG Versus City Index - Side by Side Review

Wondering if you should stay with the great British spread betting broker IG versus City Index? Read through our quick summary of the key points to find out...

How long have they been around?

IG, remain the oldest and best spread betting broker.  Not my words, the words of Investment Trends.  Founded in 1974 by Stuart Wheeler they are a great British institution listed on the London Stock Exchange valued at over £2.5BN.  City Index was quite good when Michael Spencer set it up, but now it's owned by the Yanks (Gain Capital) so who knows what is going to happen.

How tight are their spreads?

City Index spreads are certainly competitive.  Not five star though.  IG don;t really compete on price.  They are the best spread betting broker and know it so use there position in the market to win new business rather than participate in a race to the bottom of the pricing barrel.

Trading platform choice

City Index's platform is pretty good.  It's been one of their strong points and backed up with experienced dealers offering decent execution for key clients.

IG, do however lead the way in terms of innovation and trader tools.  Their platform is built in-house and offers some of the most helpful tools in the market.  Try it out here.

How broad is the market range?

Both IG and City Index offer huge market range and there is really no determinable difference between the two offerings.  If you need to trade it both brokers should be able to cater to your needs.  If they don't offer something there is probably a good reason...
